Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist

Drive with more confidence than ever before with Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist, a hands-on driver-assist program that unites Steering Assist technologies and Intelligent Cruise Control. This system contains a stop and hold function, which can bring the vehicle to a full stop, hold it there, and bring it back up to speed when traffic starts flowing again. See how Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist works by test driving the new Nissan ARIYA at Bob Moore Nissan near Edmond and Tulsa.

How Does ProPILOT Work?

Using a radar sensor in front of the vehicle, the Nissan ProPILOT can sustain a space from the vehicle in front of you at a distance you preset. From there, forward-facing cameras located at the top of the windshield help to keep your Nissan centered during single-lane driving, even around curves. The ProPILOT is easy to engage, simply press the ProPILOT button and set your desired speed and distance. Once ProPILOT is activated and lane markers are detected, ProPILOT Assist lane line and steering wheel icons will appear on the dash and provide small steering inputs as your drive. As the driver, you can simply deactivate or override the ProPILOT Assist system at any time along your ride.

ProPILOT Assist 2.0

Get a taste of a drive like no other inside the Nissan ARYIA, partnered with ProPILOT Assist 2.0. With an even better copilot by your side, you can experience hands-off single-lane driving along with hands-on guided lane-changing capabilities. This new system is designed for on-ramp and off-ramp highway driving, using the vehicle’s navigation system to maneuver the roads according to the predefined destination. Enabling the 2.0 system is easy, just set your destination in the navigation and select your preferred route. Once your Nissan enters the highway, the 2.0 Assist will become available. The ProPILOT 2.0 can detect when a slower vehicle is approaching and judge the right timing to pass the vehicle, and hands-off cruising is activated.

ProPILOT Limitations

While the ProPILOT Assist system can help drivers on the road, there are limitations that may be affected by situations and conditions. Weather conditions like lights reflecting off wet roads can cause outer cameras to not see properly. When the Nissan’s wipers are on high, this cancels out steering assist, and heavy ice or rain can affect hands-off cruising. Other limitations include:

  • Driving into direct sunlight
  • Faded lane markers and lines
  • Construction zones
  • Rapid or slow merging lanes
  • Hard deceleration
